Welcome to our budding musicians!
The Sacred Heart Mosman (SHM) Band endeavours to be totally inclusive. We cater for a range of instruments from string, woodwind, brass and percussion. Our band master, the very talented Mr Joel Woolf, caters for beginners through to the experienced musician and composes all the music parts to suit the musicians.
We cater for a Junior and a Senior band, which helps to develop the musicianship of our students. This keeps our musicians interested as they play at to their strengths and at a level suitable for them.
Our musicians get the opportunity to choose the music they want to play, which adds to their enthusiasm. In fact, our band members love playing for the school community.
There is nothing better in all the world than to share the talents and the gifts that you have been given!
The band rehearses every Wednesday morning before school. Rehearsals take place in the SHM school hall. Music folders and music stands are out, instruments are poised and musicians are ready to begin at 7.40 sharp. The SHM band rehearses for one hour on a weekly basis. A nominal fee per term is required to pay for our band master.
SHM band gets many opportunities to perform at various school assemblies and school events such as the Father’s Day breakfast, School Spring Fair, SHM Parish Senior’s Christmas lunch and SHM Christmas concert. We try and expose our musicians to many performances to give them a goal to work towards. After all, musicians love to perform!
Our SHM students develop lifelong friendships with their music community. They instantly have something in common – a love of music and performance.
Our students are encouraged to strive for their personal best, receiving awards at school assemblies on a regular basis. We have regular band updates in our school newsletter and we celebrate our students who have sat exams, although this is not compulsory.
At the end of each semester, we have a pizza lunch to thank our students. It also allows us to celebrate the joy of being a part of the SHM musical community.
